Melee at Roswell 2009

Pennsic may be over, but there is still plenty of summer fun left! Join us for this weekend of camping at a beautiful site just northeast of New Philadelphia, Ohio. Melee at Roswell has classes, merchants, archery, rapier and armoured combat, thrown weapons, and our famous “potluck picnic” on Saturday night.

Enjoy the archery Woods Walk or armor up for the Woods Quest Battle. The Melee Market Place & Bazaar features merchants as well as special hours on Saturday August 22 for you to sell, barter, or trade your own goods.

When not shopping, shooting, fighting, or attending class, you can relax and share Turkish coffee and bardic performances (yours and others') at the Magic Carpet Kavehane, hosted by the Gorsedd bardic community.

Bardic Boot Camp
by Llywelyn Glyndwr
10:00 a.m., at the Magic Carpet Kavehane

Soldiers go to boot camp to learn disciplines like marching and shooting straight, but too often Bards skip the step of knowing their essential tools. By contrasting passages from Shakespeare, Beowulf and the Ballad of Gilligan’s Island, we’ll explore some Bardic Basics- the use of rhythm, sound patterns, and imagery- and how they influence meaning.
Weeds Walk
by Lady Catriona Fionnaghal nic Elphinstone
10:00 a.m., meet at the Clubhouse

Discussion and identification of local flora, as well as practical uses.
If You Host It, They Will Come: How to Promote Your Event
by Magistrissa Milica of Varna
10:00 a.m., in the Clubhouse
This class offers tips on how to publicize your event so that people will want to attend. It includes non-software-specific hints on creating a successful website.
Turkish Coffee Tutorial
by Juliane of Magic Carpet Kavehane
11:00 a.m., at the Magic Carpet Kavehane

Join us at the Magic Carpet Kavehane and learn the secrets of brewing a cup of good Turkish Coffee. Along the way, find out why some Medieval Middle Easterners were, in fact, "dying for a cup of coffee," who frequented coffeehouses, what they talked about, the tales that were told and other coffee tidbits.
Basic Sewing 101
by Baroness Maerwynn
11:00 a.m., in the Clubhouse

Basic sewing techniques as well as simple embroidery to embellish almost any piece of garb.
Unsolved Mysteries of the Middle Ages
by Baroness Catriona nic Hugh Mclaey
2:00 p.m., in the Clubhouse

Did Marco Polo actually travel to Cathay? Who is buried at Glastonbury? There was a pregnant Pope? And, just when was the Cerne Abbas Giant carved into the side of a hill? This is a lighthearted look at the hoaxes, conundrums, and mysteries from and about the Middle Ages.
Midrealm Sing-Along
by Lady Ursula the Widow
2:00 p.m., at the Magic Carpet Kavehane

Sing-Along of popular songs of the Midrealm.
Basics of Beekeeping
by Maistor Justinos Tekton called Justin
3:00 p.m., in the Clubhouse

Learn the fundamentals of apiculture (beekeeping), a science that dates back to ancient Egypt. The equipment has changed a little, to allow nondestructive hive inspection, but the bees still dictate most of what we do, as they have throughout history.
