Directions

Take your best route to I-77, to exit 81 (25 minutes south of Canton); exit onto SR 39 EAST. Proceed on 39 into New Philiadelphia. 39 veers to the LEFT at Y in the road. After the Y, proceed 5 miles to Roswell, Ohio. Turn LEFT on Tusc. Co. Rd 65 to Days Lane (1/10 mile); turn LEFT again. Road dead ends at the site. Signs will be posted

Melee at Roswell 2009 -- Bardic

Northern Oaken's community of bards, Gorsedd, will be flying the Magic Carpet Kavehane to the Melee in Roswell this year!

The bardic Celtistani coffee house will be open from late morning to late afternoon on Saturday, August 22, and will host two classes: Bardic Boot Camp, and Turkish Coffee.

The other hours will be filled with song and story, music, dance and firebreathing, provided by you, our customers. We'll provide the coffee and sweets.

Bardic Boot Camp

Soldiers go to boot camp to learn disciplines like marching and shooting straight, but too often Bards skip the step of knowing their essential tools. By contrasting passages from Shakespeare, Beowulf and the Ballad of Gilligan’s Island, we’ll explore some Bardic Basics- the use of rhythm, sound patterns, and imagery- and how they influence meaning.

Weeds Walk

Basics of Beekeeping

Learn the fundamentals of apiculture (beekeeping), a science that dates back to ancient Egypt. The equipment has changed a little, to allow nondestructive hive inspection, but the bees still dictate most of what we do, as they have throughout history.

Melee at Roswell 2009 -- Martial Activities

It wouldn't be Melee without melee! Enjoy a wonderful weekend of killing your friends, then partying with them afterward.

Armoured Combat

Marshal Morgan deAth will be running a full day of combat fun, including authorizations, melee, and a woods battle in the afternoon. Of course, there will be the usual opportunities for pick-up fighting around our spacious battlefield area.

Rapier Combat

Rapier combat is planned for Melee this year, as usual. Details forthcoming soon.

Target Archery

Melee at Roswell is an archer's paradise! The range opens at 10:00 a.m. Saturday and closes at 4:00 p.m, with a lunch break from (approximately) 11:30 to 12:00. This year Lord Merlin will be teaching an archery equipment class. All the archers are invited to join in the woods walk down shaded trails.

Thrown Weapons

Lord Duncan will be running the Thrown Weapons range this year and will also coordinate the Brendoken Baronial Championship in this category. Bring your sharp-edged and pointy toys and play in the woods!

• The Bored Housewife will be selling her fine clothing and accessories.
• New to Melee at Roswell, Dark Horse Outfitter will offer feast gear, drinking horns and handcrafted jewelry.
• Rask Ulfbjorn will travel from far off lands to sell his Viking Archery Supplies.
• The Not-So-Ugly Duckling brings a wagon full of museum replicated jewelry.
• Rivka de Rojo will be selling her hand-made lamp work beads at Melee. Come by and watch her as she works creating unique one-of-a-kind glass beads.
• If you're looking for something to do, The Bored Bard brings toys, games, books, garb, sewing supplies, and miscellaneous.
• Celtic Wolf will be selling wooden tankards, cloth trim, knives and walking sticks.
• Viking Archery Supplies has what you need to enjoy the excellent archery venue at Melee.

Melee Market Place and Bazaar

This year at Melee at Roswell, not only will we have all the fighting and fun revelry you have come to expect, but also have the first ever Melee Market Place & Bazaar! Hours on Saturday, August 22, will be from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for you to sell, barter, or trade your own goods. So clean out your garage, unpack your Pennsic trailer, or if you have hand made crafts, goodies or anything worth selling, bartering or trading plan on doing it at Melee Market Place & Bazaar!

Rules:

• You will have to furnish your own table or goods blanket
• Furnish your own cash for making change (Troll will not be available for this)
• Buyer/seller honor
• Have fun
